God's Overflow
"For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks" – Luke 6:45

Fear is a Trap!

I am really struggling today… getting it from all ends right now. I opened this Grace Mail, and it was what I needed to hear. I hope it blesses you!

“Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.” Proverbs 29:25

There was a time in David’s life when he was totally overwhelmed with fear. You can read the story for yourself in 1 Samuel 21-22. There are some important lessons to learn from his experience. Here are some of them:

He goes to the right place for the wrong reasons.
He lies to the one who could help him and protect him.
He lies to protect himself.
He can’t discern who his enemies are and who his friends are.
In desperation he’ll grasp at anything to help defend himself.
He forgot how he used to trust the Lord.
He forgot how God used to deliver him.
He lost his confidence in the Lord.
He was so fearful that he was willing to take the enemy’s weapon to defend himself; forgetting that it didn’t do Goliath much good!
His fear would devastate innocent people.
His fear drove him to find refuge with his enemies!
He ended up looking like a fool.

Proverbs 29:25 says that “The fear of man brings a snare, but he who trusts in the LORD will be exalted.” (NASB)

“…God has not given us a spirit of fear…” 2 Timothy 1:7a

Psalm 131, verse 3, “O Israel, put your hope in the Lord—now and always.”

Proverbs 11, verses 2-3, “Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. Honesty guides good people; dishonesty destroys treacherous people.”
