God's Overflow
"For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks" – Luke 6:45

Seek Wisdom! Seek Understanding!

Have you ever had those moments where you knew, for absolute sure, that you saw your future? You could have found the perfect job opportunity that will pay you better than you ever have been compensated before, or maybe you found the perfect man or woman that you swore was “the one”. You may have heard a business opportunity that you knew was “for sure” was a no-brainer. You might have found a brand new car that seemed a deal that was too good to be true.

Without hesitation, you pursue whatever it is that you found. You pack up your belongings and moved to wherever the new job was. You jumped right into a relationship with “the one”. You put all of your money into the business opportunity. You take the deal on the car that was too good to pass up…

Only, you realize a couple of months later that the new job was not all it was cracked up to be. You realize that “the one” was soon to be “the former one”. The business opportunity was not working out like you had hoped, and you’re losing money every month. That new car had a lot of work that needed to be done so that it could run properly.

The real question is… did you seek God out first? It’s all too easy to jump at the first opportunity that comes our way or a deal that seems too good to be true. The problem is that it most likely IS too good to be true. Proverbs talks about how we need to seek God out before we make any big decisions.

“Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you. Exalt her, and she will promote you; She will bring you honor, when you embrace her.” Proverbs 4:5-8

When the verse talks about “exalting” her, not only does it mean to raise or to lift up… it also means to celebrate! By celebrating wisdom and understanding, you GAIN them!

God wants us to seek Him out in every aspect of our lives. As Jeremiah 29:13 says,

“And you will seek Me and find, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

Whenever it comes to a big decision in your life, seek God. When you seek out God for direction, you can’t go wrong!

  1. So, in light of this week’s “One Thing” sermon, is this your one thing? If so, it is a wonderful and honorable one thing, and I pray that you will attain the wisdom and understanding you need to accomplish God’s purpose in your life. As for me, there are so many things I am not doing as well as I used to, and others I didn’t do that I should probably have done long ago, and I am not yet sure which is the “one thing” God wants me to focus on right now. Prayers are appreciated.

  2. I’m actually going to pray on all four of those questions… I fell a pull for “four things”
